Cristiano Ronaldo was in blistering form as Real Madrid made a statement against Barcelona in an emphatic 3-1 victory in the Copa del Rey to progress to the final.
Cristiano Ronaldo was the standout player unsurprisingly and caused Barcelona defensive problems all night. So much talk before the game had focused on the Ronaldo-Messi rivalry, but it was undoubtedly Cristiano who reigned tonight producing a majestic display with two goals.
Real Madrid took the lead in the 13th minute when they counter attacked swiftly. Ronaldo's pace was too much for Pique and his trickery earned him a penalty for a foul in the box. Ronaldo stepped up and inevitably smashed home.
Ronaldo was the man to double Real Madrid's lead in the 57th minute giving Barcelona an almost impossible task with the score at 3-1 on aggregate. Di Maria's effort was saved by Pinto but the follow up was brilliantly controlled and dispatched by a predatory Ronaldo.
Real Madrid got a third in the 68th minute from a Varane header while Jordi Alba pulled one back late for the home side.
