Cristiano Ronaldo put in another solid performance for Los Blancos as they overcame Mallorca after falling behind to win by five goals to two.
A goalfest was looking likely from the start as both teams lined up attack-minded in an exhilarating open game.
Mallorca took the lead early through Emilio Nsue's header but Real hit back from a Higuain tap-in.
Alfaro restored Mallorca's lead much to the surprise of the Bernabeu, but Real Madrid soon stamped their authority on the game with goals coming from Ronaldo, Higuain (his second), Modric and Benzema.
Ronaldo's goal was expertly taken as usual - a headed effort into the far side of the net from a corner.
