Former Barcelona president Joan Laporta has claimed that Barcelona could have signed Cristiano Ronaldo from Sporting Lisbon in 2003, but missed out on his signature to Manchester United.
The former Barcelona supremo spoke to Spanish radio station Al Primer Toque, "(Agent Jorge) Mendes offered him to us, for even cheaper than to Manchester United, due to some transfers we had done for him, including Deco. But at that moment we did not have the resources after signing Ronaldinho, (Rafael) Marquez and (Ricardo) Quaresma."
Cristiano Ronaldo is next in action for Real Madrid tonight as they play Valencia in the second leg of the Copa del Rey quarter finals.
